circulate in France
On January 1, 2021, the rule approved in 2019 (Décret n° 2020-1396 of November 17, 2020) came into force in France, which obliges all heavy-duty vehicles to equip a sticker for ‘angles morts’, blind spots in Spanish. The regulations amend the French Highway Code with the aim of reducing the rate of heavy vehicle accidents on the roads.
The standard is intended to reduce the accident rate on French roads. An accident rate that, although it has decreased by 19% in the last decade, still registers an average of 48 deaths in traffic accidents per million inhabitants.
It is a sticker that must be affixed to all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and is essential for driving on any road in France. The aim is to make other drivers aware of the existence of these blind spots, or blind spots, in large vehicles.
Placement and signaling model according to the
vehicle
The dangerousness of the blind spots of heavy vehicles often leads to accidents due to the carelessness of other drivers. To warn of this risk, heavy vehicles must incorporate ‘blind spots’ stickers in three positions:
- In front of the vehicle. On the right side, at a height between 0.9m and 1.5m.
- In front of the vehicle. On the left side, at a height between 0.9m and 1.5m.
- At the back of the vehicle. On the right side, at a height between 0.9 and 1.5 m.
The sticker must measure 17×25 centimeters, and must be placed in the three positions on any type of heavy vehicle. However, there are some differences depending on their characteristics:
Truck: To the left and right of the truck, at a minimum height of 900 mm and a maximum of 1500 mm from the ground (usually at the door).
Trailer: To the left and right of the trailer, at a minimum height of 900 mm and a maximum of 1500 mm from the ground.
Trailer: To the left and right of the trailer, at a minimum height of 900 mm and a maximum of 1500 mm from the ground.
Caravans and Buses: To the left and right of the trailer, at a minimum height of 900 mm and a maximum of 1500 mm from the ground.
